Adrian Peters was born in June 1967 in Pietermaritzburg, being one of 4 children born to Oliver and Ruby Peters. Of humble parentage and beginnings, his childhood was spent in a government built housing development in Northdale and he schooled at the Northlands Primary and Woodlands Secondary schools, in the area.
Adrian has a B Sc Engineering (Civil) degree and a postgraduate diploma in Engineering from the erstwhile University of Natal (now UKZN) as well as a MBA from the University of Wales. Adrian has 25 years of experience in municipal engineering, 12 years of which were spent in the Transportation Sector where he has held positions of Manager: Transportation Engineering rising to Director: Traffic and Transportation. Adrian led the process of establishing the first Transport Authority at a municipal level in South Africa. From October 2002 to May 2014 Adrian occupied the post of Head:Engineering being responsible for inter alia operating and capital budgets in excess of R1billion, 2500 staff, 6675km of surfaced roads, 1800km of unsurfaced roads 1000km of culverts and canals etc.
From May 2014 to date, Adrian occupies the post of Chief Strategy Officer responsible for driving strategic programmes across the municipality. Adrian Peters is a registered Professional Engineer, Vice President of ECSA, past Council member of the Council for the Built Environment and a Fellow of the South African Institute of Civil Engineering.. He chairs ECSA’s Legal Affairs Committee, Investigations Committee and the Identification of Engineering Work Steering Committee. He currently holds the position of Chief Strategy Officer of eThekwini Municipality.
Adrian has 2 daughters, Tarryn who is in qualified Civil Engineer and Caitlin who is in second year of the Civil Engineering programme at UCT.
