Civil Engineering is the monthly magazine of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE), and as such the publication serves as the voice of the civil engineering profession in South Africa. Civil Engineering, which is ABC certified, reaches around 11 000 readers, comprising mostly civil engineering practitioners and civil engineering students. The magazine features all the sub-disciplines within the civil engineering profession (and hence within the built environment) on a rotational basis – transportation, water, structural, geotechnical, environmental, mining, renewable energy, construction, project management, railways, harbours/coastal, municipal services, and information technology. In addition the magazine keeps SAICE members informed regarding various other engineering-related matters (such as technical standards, new/amended legislation, continuing professional development, etc), and is handed to decision-makers when SAICE leaders meet with them, thereby illustrating the meaningful contribution that engineering is making to the wellbeing of the country. Over the last ten years Civil Engineering has also received a number of coveted awards.
