Sean O’Beirne has more than twenty years experience in the environmental assessment and management field. In that time he has lead some of the largest EIAs in South Africa most notably in the aluminium (Mozal Smelter), petrochemicals (numerous large scale EIAs for Sasol) and transport sectors (specifically Gautrain). Sean has many years of experience in working with international lenders and has worked in the Russian Federation, the Middle East and various countries in Africa in this capacity. He has conducted a number of due diligence reviews for lenders including for the Medupi, Kusile power stations and for the Ingula pumped storage scheme. Sean is a certified environmental assessment practitioner having being certified in 2008. Finally, but importantly, Sean also conducts training and periodically lectures at the University of the Free State and North West University.
